I've never been one to take to my journal or to a blog to rant about anything, but I feel the need to speak on the lack of community on this site, which is supposed to be an art community.
I've been looking at Daily Deviations a lot recently and I've noticed on all of them that there seems to be at least one person that can't accept the work for what it is and they feel the need to criticize the work as 'crap' or 'meaningless' and question why the work was even nominated. Well, that would be because someone saw something in the work and felt it needed to be brought to the attention of other deviants. You don't have to like the work, but what do you get from saying comments like that? Whatever happened to, 'if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all'? I'm not saying that everything deserves gushy comments, but have a little respect for the artist and their work. They are probably very proud of the work and honored to have been selected for a DD.
It's not just on Daily Deviations. I see it all the time when searching galleries. People need to understand that many people on here don't do art to please anyone and that being said, you definitely can't please everyone. Everyone is always going to have their own opinions on what is art or how something should have been composed or how it should have looked. At the end of the day, only the artist can make that call. It's their piece. I hate reading comments on artistic nudes and conceptual work. I despise seeing things like, 'why does this model have to be naked?' 'I hate artistic nudes.' Then DON'T look at them. If you don't like them, avert your eyes and certainly don't leave comments criticizing a very powerful and beautiful artistic medium. Conceptual work- 'I don't get it. It's so stupid.' I'm sure the artist gets it and that's all that matters. Respect that.
I'm not targeting anyone. This is just a general rant on something that has been on my mind a lot lately. I'm not saying I love or understand every piece that is posted, but I understand that everyone is entitled to their own vision. Everyone is always going to have a different view or vision of their work. It doesn't make it any less of something because someone else has a different idea. Bring back the community to Deviantart.
